    Tamoxifen causing cancer

Find out about the side effects of the hormone therapy tamoxifen. Tell your doctor or nurse if you have any side effects so they can help you manage them. Your nurse will give you a contact number to ring if you have any questions or problems. Each of these effects happens in more than 1 in 10 people (10%). You may have changes to your periods while you're on treatment. If you haven’t had your menopause your periods may become irregular. They usually start again within 6 to12 months of treatment finishing. However, for some women who are close to the time of their natural menopause they don’t start again. Anti sickness injections and tablets can control it. You might need to try different anti sickness medicines to find one that works. Tips You might feel very tired during your treatment. It might take 6 months to a year for your energy levels to get back to normal after the treatment ends. Many of the drugs used to treat breast cancer today are probable or known cancer-causing agents. Tamoxifen, for instance, is classified by the World Health Organization as a "human carcinogen," but recent news headlines praised extended use of this drug for "saving lives." It is obvious that the mainstream media has swallowed the tamoxifen-flavored Kool-Aid ... Last week, mainstream media headlines lit up like Christmas lights with exuberant news that the chemotherapy drug tamoxifen, "Cuts Breast Cancer Deaths," "Saves Lives," "Dramatically Lowers Risk of Death," ad nauseam, when extended from 5 years of use to 10 in breast cancer patients. These mostly uncritical pronouncements followed from a newly published study in Lancet, funded by a long list of contributors, including the US Army, EU-Biomed, UK Medical Research Council, and the UK division of Astra Zeneca, the company that formed after the now defunct Imperial Chemical Industry, the drug's original patent holder and manufacturer, de-merged its pharmaceutical division Zeneca Group in 1993, merging with Astra AB in 1999 to assume its present incarnation as one of the world's most powerful pharmaceutical companies. Most of these news stories made no mention of the fact that a major pharmaceutical industry funding source for the study would benefit directly and indirectly, perhaps in tens of millions of dollars, from its ostensibly positive findings. Mind you, Astra Zeneca is a founding (and still controlling) sponsor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the more than a quarter of a century old push to screen millions of asymptomatic women for so-called 'early-stage cancers' with x-ray mammography, a campaign which was recently shown to result in the overdiagnosis and unnecessary treatment of an astounding 1.3 million American women over the past 30 years. Therefore it is a sad reflection on the state of journalism today that more was not said about this glaring conflict of interest. Indeed, increasingly, mainstream medical news reports have transmogrified into thinly veiled infomercials for their major advertisers.

While its long-term effects on healthy women are unknown, tamoxifen's cancer causing properties are well documented. ABSTRACT Tamoxifen, a nonsteroidal antiestrogen agent, is widely used as adjunctive therapy for women with breast cancer, and it has been approved by the. Lombardi Cancer Center, Washington, DC 20007, USA. DESIGN A MEDLINE search on the carcinogenicity of tamoxifen was conducted and the literature.

Tamoxifen is an anti-oestrogenic drug widely used for adjuvant therapy of breast cancer. Its use has caused an increased incidence of endometrial cancer and it is also a potent carcinogen in rat liver. Since the demonstration that tamoxifen forms covalent DNA adducts in rat liver, many investigations of its mechanism of carcinogenic action have focused on the examination of human and animal tissues for the presence of tamoxifen–DNA adducts, the identification of their structures and the determination of the metabolic pathways that lead to their formation. This article reviews the current evidence for genotoxic mechanisms for tamoxifen carcinogenicity, and discusses some inconsistencies in the data. AMS, accelerator mass spectrometry, CIA, chemiluminescence immunoassay, DELFIA, dissociation-enhanced lanthanide fluoroimmunoassay, DHEAS, dehydroisoandrosterone-3-sulphate, SERMs, selective (o)estrogen receptor modulators, tamoxifen, ()-1--1,2-diphenyl-1-butene, is a non-steroidal anti-oestrogen for the treatment of breast cancer, the most common form of cancer in women world-wide. By virtue of its proven efficacy in extending remission and survival from primary breast cancer and in reducing the incidence of contralateral breast cancer in women who have already had a breast tumour (1), it is now the world's most widely used cancer chemotherapeutic agent. It has undergone trials in several countries to determine whether its administration to healthy women at high risk of breast cancer can reduce the incidence of malignancy. "We don't think that it overall changes the risk-benefit equation, in that women who are eligible to take this drug probably should still take it because of its proven benefit," researcher Christopher Li, MD, Ph D, an associate member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, tells Web MD. "I think the worst thing that could happen, on a public health basis, with this paper is for patients and their doctors to look at this and say, 'Oh, this is a reason not to take tamoxifen.' Nothing could be further from the truth, for the reason that it obviously has enormous benefit," says Victor Vogel, MD, MHS, the American Cancer Society's national vice president for research. Here's a look at the study Li and Vogel are talking about -- and why they stand by tamoxifen's use in breast cancer patients with "ER positive" breast cancer. Most breast cancers are " ER positive," or estrogen receptor-positive. That means they grow when exposed to the hormone estrogen.

Don't take a ciprofloxacin tablet with a glass of milk, other dairy foods or any calcium-enriched product (such as juice). Large amounts of calcium can make this drug less effective. However, it's okay to take ciprofloxacin as part of a meal that includes other foods. The presence of other nutrients stops calcium from interfering with ciprofloxacin. Avoid drinking a lot of coffee, tea or other products that contain caffeine while taking ciprofloxacin. A working group within the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) was established during the AGM in Brussels (9th-11th June 1995) to look into creating a European cycle route network. The first meeting of the working group took place in Cheb in the Czech Republic on 15th September and it was chaired by Jens Erik Larsen. The other members of the working group were: Rein Lepik (Vänta Aga, Estonia), Chris Heymans (SLF, Norway), Richard König (ADFC, Germany) and Martin Robes (Czech and Slovak Trafic Club, Czech Republic).
